Chang Chen is a Taiwanese actor born in Taipei on October 14, 1976. He made his debut at the age of 14 in Edward Yang's cult film, *A Brighter Summer Day* (1991), which launched a prolific career in arthouse cinema. He gained international recognition with his role as 'Dark Cloud' Lo in Ang Lee's *Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon* (2000). His filmography is marked by significant artistic collaborations, particularly with director Wong Kar-wai, for whom he has acted in films such as *Happy Together*, *2046*, and *The Grandmaster*. He has also frequently collaborated with Hou Hsiao-hsien on acclaimed works such as *Three Times* and *The Assassin*. His other notable performances include John Woo's *Red Cliff* and the role of Dr. Yueh in Denis Villeneuve's *Dune* (2021). In 2021, he won the Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actor for his performance in *The Soul*. His status in world cinema was further solidified by his role as a jury member at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
