Charles Belcher
Charles Belcher (San Francisco, July 27, 1872 – Los Angeles, December 10, 1943) was an American actor, primarily active during the silent film era. Known for his skill as a character actor, he specialized in aristocratic figures, often with antagonistic nuances. His career was closely linked to his collaboration with actor Douglas Fairbanks, with whom he worked on highly successful films. His most celebrated performances include his portrayal of Governor Alvarado in *The Mark of Zorro* (1920) and King Louis XIII in *The Three Musketeers* (1921). Other significant works include the epic *Ben-Hur* (1925), in the role of Balthasar, and *The Black Pirate* (1926). Although his career declined with the advent of sound, Belcher is recognized as a talented performer whose expressive facial expressions were instrumental in defining memorable characters and contributing to the success of some of the most important productions of the 1920s.
