Charles Crumb

Charles Vincent Crumb (1943-1993) was an American artist, the older brother of the renowned cartoonist Robert Crumb. A pivotal figure in his brother's artistic development, he actively collaborated with him during their childhood and adolescence on the creation of homemade comics, displaying a precocious talent. His career never developed professionally due to severe mental illness, which led him to progressive and near-total isolation. His mature work consists of thousands of pages drawn in small notebooks, characterized by an obsessive style, with dense and meticulous text that invades nearly every space of the composition. Recognition of his art came almost exclusively posthumously, particularly thanks to the documentary *Crumb* (1994) by Terry Zwigoff, which revealed his complex life story and tormented artistic genius to the general public. Today, he is considered a significant exponent of Art Brut, and his works have been exhibited in several exhibitions.
