Charley Chase

**Charley Chase** (1893-1940), pseudonym of Charles Parrott, was an American comedic actor, screenwriter, and director, a prominent figure of the silent era and early sound films, primarily associated with the Hal Roach Studios.

Known for his numerous short films, Chase often embodied the common man, elegant yet perpetually grappling with embarrassing situations and misadventures that caused him to lose his composure. His comedic style relied on social misunderstandings, the escalation of minor catastrophes, and the dignity he tried to maintain until the inevitable chaos.

Among his most notable films are the silent short films such as *Mighty Lak a Goat* (1926) and *Limousine Love* (1928), which demonstrated his ability to transition to sound. In addition to his acting career, he also directed numerous films for other comedians, including Laurel & Hardy and the Little Rascals.
