Charuprakash Ghosh
Charuprakash Ghosh (1908-1980) was an Indian actor, known primarily for his collaboration with director Satyajit Ray. His fame is inextricably linked to the role of the antagonist Prasanna, the greedy moneylender and schoolmaster, in the neorealist masterpiece *Pather Panchali* (1955). A non-professional actor, Ghosh was discovered and cast by Ray for his ability to give the character a raw and memorable authenticity. His performance became a crucial element in the film's international success, the first installment of the Apu Trilogy. Subsequently, he collaborated with Ray again on the film *Abhijan* (1962), consolidating his reputation. Although his filmography is limited, his contribution to Indian cinema is recognized as fundamental, especially for embodying one of the most iconic figures in Ray's work, contributing significantly to the realism and emotional power of a film considered a milestone in world cinema.
