Chieko Matsubara is a Japanese actress, born in Nagoya on January 6, 1945. Considered one of the most representative figures of 1960s Japanese cinema, her image is primarily associated with the Nikkatsu production company. She debuted in 1961 after winning a studio-sponsored beauty contest, quickly becoming one of its top stars and forming the celebrated "Nikkatsu Sannin Musume" trio with Sayuri Yoshinaga and Masako Izumi. Her filmography from that period includes dozens of genre films, notably *Yogiri yo Kon'ya mo Arigatō* (1967), in which she co-starred with Yujiro Ishihara. As the cinematic landscape changed, she diversified her career, participating in productions for other companies, such as an installment of the *Otoko wa Tsurai yo* (Tora-san) series, and working extensively in television and theater. Her awards include the Elan d'or Award for Newcomer of the Year in 1962 and the prestigious Kinuyo Tanaka Award at the 2021 Mainichi Film Awards, honoring her long and prolific career.
