Christian Rub
Christian Rub (1886–1956) was an Austrian-German character actor, active primarily in American cinema. After immigrating to the United States, he became a recurring figure in Hollywood from the 1930s to the early 1950s, specializing in supporting roles that often portrayed good-natured European characters. His most famous and universally recognized role is that of Geppetto in the Disney animated classic *Pinocchio* (1940). For this character, Rub not only provided the original English voice but also served as the live-action model for the animators, who based the woodcarver's movements and expressions on his performance. His extensive filmography includes over one hundred appearances, with roles in films such as Frank Capra's *You Can't Take It with You* (1938) and *Swiss Miss* (1938), starring Laurel and Hardy. Although he did not receive any major awards, his contribution to cinema, and particularly to the creation of an icon like Geppetto, has secured his place in the history of animation.
