
Corey Fischer
Corey Fischer (Brooklyn, February 28, 1945 – Oakland, June 6, 2020) was an American actor, director, and writer, a leading figure in American Jewish theater. He is primarily known as a co-founder of A Traveling Jewish Theatre (later The Jewish Theatre San Francisco) in 1978, along with Naomi Newman and Albert Greenberg. With the company, he co-created and performed in numerous original productions that explored contemporary Jewish identity and culture, including acclaimed works such as *The Last Yiddish Poet* and *See Under: Love*, an adaptation of the novel by David Grossman. His film career includes the notable role of Captain "Painless" Waldowski (the dentist) in Robert Altman's 1970 film *M*A*S*H* and other appearances. His theatrical work received widespread critical acclaim and numerous awards, including support from the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays, establishing him as an influential and innovative voice in the American theatrical landscape for over forty years.
