Cyril Raymond
Cyril Raymond (1899-1973) was a British actor, known primarily for his prolific film career, where he excelled in supporting roles. His composed demeanor and impeccable diction made him ideal for portraying members of the British establishment: officials, military officers, policemen, or distinguished gentlemen.
His most iconic role is undoubtedly that of the cricketer Charters in Alfred Hitchcock's classic *The Lady Vanishes* (1938), where he formed a memorable and comedic duo with Naunton Wayne (as Caldicott). This partnership was so well-received that they reprised their characters in other films. Raymond also appeared in another Hitchcock film, *The 39 Steps* (1935).
His acting style was characterized by measured composure and refined subtlety, making him perfect for characters who were often formal, sometimes slightly pompous, but always dignified.
