
Dan O'Herlihy
Dan O'Herlihy (Wexford, 1919 – Malibu, 2005) was an Irish actor with a long and versatile career in theatre, film, and television. Trained at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, he soon distinguished himself in film with the role of Macduff in Orson Welles's *Macbeth* (1948). His most celebrated and acclaimed performance remains that of the shipwrecked protagonist in Luis Buñuel's *Adventures of Robinson Crusoe* (1954), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Established as a character actor of great depth and reliability, he is remembered for portraying iconic figures in genre films, including the antagonist Conal Cochran in *Halloween III: Season of the Witch* (1982) and the president of OCP, "The Old Man," in the sci-fi classic *RoboCop* (1987). His extensive filmography also includes *Game of Death* (1978) and *Flight of the Navigator* (1986). His career continued successfully in television, where he appeared in series such as *Twin Peaks* in the role of Andrew Packard.
