Dana Morgan

Dana Morgan is an American musician and music store owner, known primarily for his brief tenure as the bassist for the Warlocks, the band that would later become the Grateful Dead. In 1965, he played with the band for a few months, participating in their early recording sessions before being replaced by Phil Lesh. Although his career as a musician did not bring him international fame, Morgan became a pivotal and highly respected figure in the San Francisco Bay Area music community. His primary contribution and life's work is the management of Morgan Music in Palo Alto, a historic store founded by his father, Fred Morgan. The business is considered an institution and a landmark for generations of musicians. His recognition comes not from formal awards, but from the lasting influence he has exerted as a mentor, a provider of quality instruments, and a pillar of the local music scene, solidifying his reputation far beyond his role in the Grateful Dead.
