Daniel Davis is an American actor, born on May 26, 1945, in Gurdon, Arkansas. He is best known to the general public for his role as Niles, the sarcastic and witty British butler, in the hit 1990s sitcom *The Nanny*. For this performance, his impeccable English accent became famous, despite his American nationality. His television career also includes memorable roles such as Professor James Moriarty in two episodes of the series *Star Trek: The Next Generation*. On the big screen, he appeared in films such as *The Hunt for Red October* (1990) and *The Prestige* (2006). An accomplished stage actor, Davis received significant recognition for his work on Broadway, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Play for his performance in *Wrong Mountain* in 2000.
