Daniel Karimyar

Daniel Karimyar, an Italian director and screenwriter of Afghan origin born in 1998, is considered one of the emerging voices in contemporary Italian cinema. His work primarily explores the themes of identity, integration, and the sense of belonging of the second generation, drawing on his personal experience. He rose to prominence with his 2021 short film *The Sunshine* (Il Sole), which tells the story of two young Afghan friends who grew up in the province of Lecco. For this film, he received significant accolades, winning the 'I Love GAI' award at the Giornate degli Autori (Venice Days) of the 78th Venice International Film Festival and the Nastro d'Argento (Silver Ribbon) for Best Short Film in 2022, in addition to receiving a David di Donatello nomination. His previous works include the short film *Kufar* (2020). In 2022, he co-founded the film production company Taro Film to develop his future projects.
