David Bower
David Bower is a Welsh actor, dancer, and activist, known for his work in film and theatre and for his advocacy of British Sign Language (BSL). He gained international recognition for his role as David, the deaf brother of Charles (Hugh Grant), in the 1994 hit comedy *Four Weddings and a Funeral*. His performance, entirely in BSL, was praised for its authenticity and charisma, contributing to greater visibility for deaf actors. In addition to film, Bower is a prominent figure in theatre. He is the co-founder of the Flying Words Project, a performance group that integrates sign language poetry and spoken word, and the artistic director of Signdance Collective International, which blends dance, theatre, and deaf culture. His commitment has significantly contributed to increasing the representation of deaf artists in the performing arts. For his contributions to culture, he received an honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of Wolverhampton.
