
David Gulpilil
David Gulpilil Ridjimiraril Dalaithngu (1953-2021) was an Australian Aboriginal actor and dancer of the Yolŋu people. He achieved international fame with his debut role in Nicolas Roeg's film *Walkabout* (1971). His fifty-year career includes memorable performances in films such as *Storm Boy* (1976), *The Last Wave* (1977), and the global hit *Crocodile Dundee* (1986). Subsequently, he delivered acclaimed performances in *Rabbit-Proof Fence* (2002), *The Tracker* (2002), and *Ten Canoes* (2006), in which he served as the narrator. His semi-autobiographical performance in *Charlie's Country* (2013) earned him the Best Actor award in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. Considered a pioneering figure in Australian cinema, he was honored with numerous accolades, including the Order of Australia and several AACTA Awards, for his fundamental contribution to bringing Indigenous culture to the big screen.
