Denis Manuel (born Jacques-Élie Manuel; Paris, July 15, 1931 – Saint-Paul-de-Vence, October 9, 1993) was a highly regarded French actor, primarily active in theatre, but with a significant career in film and television as well. A central figure on the French stage, he joined the Comédie-Française in 1959, becoming a *sociétaire* from 1963 to 1981, where he was distinguished by his versatility in a repertoire that ranged from classic to modern works, often under the direction of Antoine Vitez. In film, he was acclaimed for his character roles in notable films such as Jean-Pierre Melville's "Army of Shadows" (1969) and Costa-Gavras's "Special Section" (1975). He was also a frequent presence on the small screen, appearing in numerous television dramas. His career was crowned in 1987 when he won the prestigious Molière Award for Best Supporting Actor for his theatrical performance.
