Ebbe Rode

Ebbe Rode (10 May 1910 – 23 May 1998) was a prominent Danish actor. The son of poet Helge Rode and writer Edith Rode, his career spanned over sixty years, primarily on the stage. Associated for much of his life with the Royal Danish Theatre (Det Kongelige Teater), he was distinguished by his intellectual and versatile performances, tackling both classical and modern roles with equal mastery. His film career includes roles in numerous films, notably *Harry and the Butler* (1961) and Carl Theodor Dreyer's acclaimed *Gertrud* (1964). For his work on screen, he twice received the Bodil Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, one of the highest honors in Danish cinema, while in the theatre, he was awarded the prestigious Teaterpokalen. In addition to acting, he was also a respected writer, authoring several memoirs in which he reflected on his art and his life.
