
Edisher (Davit) Giorgobiani
Edisher Giorgobiani (Tbilisi, October 2, 1951 – Tbilisi, December 21, 2004) was a Georgian theater and film actor. A graduate of the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film State University, his theatrical career was primarily associated with the prestigious Shota Rustaveli State Theatre in his native city. His international fame is mainly due to his role as Giorgi Toreli in the film *Land of My Fathers* (მშობლიურო ჩემო მიწავ!, 1980), directed by Rezo Chkheidze. For this intense performance, which established him as one of the iconic faces of Georgian cinema of the period, he received the Best Actor award at the All-Union Film Festival in Dushanbe in 1980. His filmography also includes appearances in notable works such as *The Wishing Tree* (1976) by Tengiz Abuladze. In the last years of his life, he retired from acting to dedicate himself to monastic life, taking the name Davit.
