Edmund Breon, born Ivor Edmund de Breon MacLaverty (Hamilton, December 12, 1882 – Cork, June 25, 1953), was a Scottish actor. A character actor with a long and prolific career, he began his work on the stage before making his debut in silent films. With the advent of sound, he established himself thanks to his impeccable diction and his ability to portray distinct characters, often authoritarian or comedic figures from British high society. He worked both in the United Kingdom and in Hollywood, appearing in over one hundred films. His most memorable roles include Colonel Chauvelin in *The Scarlet Pimpernel* (1934) and Inspector Brian Cameron in the psychological thriller *Gaslight* (1944), alongside Ingrid Bergman. He also appeared in several Sherlock Holmes films, such as *Terror by Night* (1946). Although he did not receive any major awards, Breon was a familiar and highly regarded face of classic cinema, recognized for his professionalism and versatility in playing crucial supporting roles.
