Eitarō Ozawa (1909-1988) was an influential Japanese actor whose career spanned over fifty years. A co-founder of the Gekidan Mingei theater company in 1950, he was a central figure both on stage and on screen, collaborating with some of the greatest directors in Japanese cinema, such as Kenji Mizoguchi, Akira Kurosawa, and Kaneto Shindo. His most memorable performances include roles in *Ugetsu* (1953), *Sansho the Bailiff* (1954), *High and Low* (1963), and *Onibaba* (1964), where he demonstrated great versatility in bringing complex and often authoritarian characters to life. His acting skills earned him numerous accolades, including the 1960 Mainichi Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in *The Naked Island*. Ozawa is remembered as one of the most iconic and respected figures of post-war Japanese cinema, valued for his artistic rigor and his intense presence.
