Elizabeth Patterson

Elizabeth Patterson (1874–1966) was an American actress, known for her long and prolific career as a character actress in film, television, and theatre. She began her career on the stage, making her Broadway debut in the early 20th century, before moving to Hollywood where she became a familiar face in numerous films of the Golden Age of cinema. Specializing in roles as elderly women, spinsters, or authoritative matriarchs, her most significant film performances include "Dinner at Eight" (1933), "Tobacco Road" (1941), and "Intruder in the Dust" (1949). However, her fame reached its peak with the role of Matilda Trumbull, the Ricardos' neighbor, in the celebrated television sitcom "I Love Lucy." Although she did not receive major individual awards during her career, her primary recognition was her constant screen presence and the public's appreciation for her memorable performances, which made her one of the most respected and recognizable character actresses of her time.
