Emil Rameau

Emil Rameau, born Emil Efraim Ramsfelder (Unna, August 13, 1878 – Los Angeles, September 9, 1957), was a German actor. He began his career on the stages of Germany and Austria, establishing himself as a respected character actor in the theaters of Berlin, Hamburg, and Vienna. With the advent of sound film, he appeared in German film productions such as *Dreyfus* (1930). Of Jewish origin, he was forced to leave Germany with the rise of Nazism and moved to the United States. In Hollywood, he specialized in supporting roles, often uncredited, playing European characters in highly successful films. His most notable works include *To Be or Not to Be* (1942), *Jungle Book* (1942), and *Wilson* (1944). He is particularly remembered for his small but iconic role as the banker Jaffe in the classic film *Casablanca* (1942). Although he did not receive any specific awards, his recognition lies in his solid contribution as a supporting actor and as part of the significant diaspora of European talent that enriched American cinema during its Golden Age.
