Erwin Blask

Erwin Blask was a German athlete who specialized in the javelin throw. He reached the peak of his career in the 1930s, achieving significant international recognition. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, he won the silver medal in his discipline, placing behind his compatriot Gerhard Stöck. His most successful year was 1938, when he first won the gold medal at the European Athletics Championships in Paris and later, in Stockholm, set a new world record in the event with a throw of 74.86 meters, breaking the previous record held by Finland's Matti Järvinen. Active into the 1940s, Blask is considered one of the leading javelin throwers of his generation, a key figure in an era of great evolution for the discipline.
