
Esther Dale
Esther Dale (1885–1961) was an American character actress, known for her prolific career in theater, film, and television. She began her career as a singer before appearing on Broadway and, in the mid-1930s, moved to Hollywood, quickly becoming a familiar face on the big screen. Specializing in roles as maternal figures, aunts, housekeepers, or strong-willed women, she made her mark in notable films such as *Curly Top* (1935), Frank Capra's *Mr. Deeds Goes to Town* (1936), and the comedy *The Awful Truth* (1937). Her career extended into the television era, with appearances in numerous popular series. Although she did not win any major awards, Esther Dale is recognized for her great professionalism and versatility, which made her an essential and dependable presence in dozens of productions during Hollywood's Golden Age, contributing significantly to the success of many film classics.
