Eva Dahlbeck
Eva Dahlbeck (1920-2008) was a Swedish actress and writer, considered one of the most significant actresses in post-war European cinema. Her international fame is inextricably linked to her collaboration with director Ingmar Bergman, for whom she embodied complex, intelligent female characters, often with a sharp irony. Among their most celebrated works are *Smiles of a Summer Night* (1955), *Waiting Women* (1952), and *A Lesson in Love* (1954). Her talent was internationally recognized in 1958 when she won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival for the film *Brink of Life*, also directed by Bergman, an award she shared with her co-stars. Active in over sixty films, from the mid-1960s she progressively reduced her cinematic commitments to dedicate herself successfully to writing, publishing several novels and poetry collections, and also establishing herself as a literary author in her country.
