Evelyn Venable

Evelyn Venable (October 18, 1913 – November 15, 1993) was an American actress, active primarily in the 1930s and early 1940s. Her film career includes notable roles in films such as *Death Takes a Holiday* (1934), alongside Fredric March, and *Alice Adams* (1935), with Katharine Hepburn. Her most enduring and universally recognized contribution is connected to the world of Disney: she was the original voice actress and live-action model for the character of the Blue Fairy in the animated classic *Pinocchio* (1940). Although this claim is often debated, she is also said to have been the model for the original Columbia Pictures logo. In 1943, she retired from acting to focus on her family and pursue a second career in academia. After graduating from UCLA, she became a respected lecturer of classical languages, teaching Latin and Greek for many years at the same university, demonstrating remarkable intellectual versatility in addition to her artistic talent.
