Fernand Herrmann

Fernand Herrmann (Paris, February 21, 1886 – Paris, June 4, 1925) was a French actor and a prominent figure in silent cinema. His career is inextricably linked to director Louis Feuillade, for whom he played iconic roles that established him as one of the first stars of European cinema. He became famous for his portrayal of Juan-José Moréno, the leader of the criminal gang in the serial *Les Vampires* (1915–1916). Subsequently, Feuillade cast him as the titular masked vigilante in *Judex* (1916) and its sequel, *La Nouvelle Mission de Judex* (1918), cementing his popularity. Among his other notable works is the role of Lieutenant de Saint-Avit in the adventure film *L'Atlantide* (1921), directed by Jacques Feyder. Despite his untimely death, Herrmann is recognized for his strong screen presence and versatility, remaining an emblematic figure of French adventure cinema of the 1910s.
