Floyd Jackson

Floyd Jackson was an American saxophonist, a prominent figure in the post-World War II rhythm and blues and jump blues scene. His career took off as a member of Roy Milton's Solid Senders, contributing decisively to the band's sound. His energetic solo on the hit track "Milton's Boogie" (1946) is considered an emblematic example of his style. Subsequently, he embarked on a solo career, recording for labels such as Modern and Imperial Records. His work as a bandleader includes tracks such as "Jackson's Blues" and "Floyd's Blues." His style, known as "honking," was characterized by a powerful, gritty, and sometimes strident sound, which became a trademark for many R&B saxophonists. Although he did not achieve mainstream fame, his innovative approach to the instrument is recognized as a fundamental influence on the development of the saxophone in the nascent rock and roll, making him a pioneer of the genre.
