Folco Lulli

Folco Lulli (1912-1971) was an Italian actor with rugged features, who became one of the most recognizable figures of post-war and Neorealist cinema. His film career began in the post-war period, rapidly emerging thanks to his authentic screen presence.

He made a significant debut with Roberto Rossellini in *Paisà* (1946) and *Germany Year Zero* (1948). He also delivered a memorable performance for Luchino Visconti in *La terra trema* (1948), where he played a powerful fisherman.

Characterized by a frequently gruff expression and a robust physique, Lulli excelled in roles as common men, peasants, soldiers, or ambiguous and sometimes ruthless figures. His understated and truthful acting lent depth to his characters. He also showed great versatility in comedic roles in works such as Luigi Comencini's *Bread, Love and Fantasy* (1953) and, notably, in Mario Monicelli's masterpiece *The Great War* (1959), where he played a peasant soldier. Lulli is remembered as a great character actor, essential for the realism of post-war Italian cinema.
