Franco Franchi

Franco Franchi, stage name of Francesco Benenato (Palermo, 1928 – Rome, 1992), was an Italian actor, comedian, and singer. Together with Ciccio Ingrassia, he formed one of the most celebrated and prolific comedy duos in Italian cinema. After their beginnings in variety shows, the duo achieved enormous popularity in the 1960s and 1970s, starring in over one hundred films. Their comedy, based on unmistakable facial expressions and a frantic pace, was central to numerous parodies of successful film genres, such as the Spaghetti Western and spy films. Among their best-known titles are *I due colonnelli* and *I due figli di Ringo*. In the later years of his career, Franchi sought to move beyond purely comedic roles, gaining significant critical acclaim for his dramatic performance in the "La giara" episode of the Taviani brothers' film *Kaos* (1984), for which he received a David di Donatello nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
