Frank Corio
Frank Corio (1914-2001) was an Italian-American painter and a prominent figure of Abstract Expressionism. Born in Italy, he emigrated to the United States, where he developed a highly personal, lyrical, and abstract style. Although associated with the New York School, his work is distinguished by its use of vibrant colors, gestural brushstrokes, and a deep connection to nature and classical themes. His prolific output includes major series inspired by themes such as 'The Four Seasons' and mythology, where abstract forms evoke organic and emotional landscapes. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, and his works were exhibited in prestigious institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He is remembered for his unique contribution to post-war American abstraction, blending European sensibility with American dynamism.
