
Fred Roos
Fred Roos (1934–2024) was an American film producer and casting director, a key figure of the New Hollywood era. He began his career in casting, demonstrating an exceptional talent for discovering actors and defining the faces of iconic films such as *American Graffiti* and *The Godfather*. His work was instrumental in launching the careers of stars such as Harrison Ford, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and Diane Keaton. A close collaborator of Francis Ford Coppola, he successfully transitioned to producing, with his work including masterpieces such as *The Conversation*, *Apocalypse Now*, and *The Godfather Part II*. For the latter film, he won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1975, along with Coppola and Gray Frederickson. His long career also includes producing works such as *The Outsiders* and Sofia Coppola's *Lost in Translation*, cementing his reputation as one of the most influential figures in modern American cinema.
