Frieda Inescort

Frieda Inescort, born Frieda Wrightman (Edinburgh, June 29, 1901 – Woodland Hills, February 26, 1976), was a Scottish-born American actress. She began her career on stage, achieving success on Broadway before moving to Hollywood in the mid-1930s. Specializing in supporting roles, she was noted for her elegance and ability to portray sophisticated characters, often aristocratic or authoritarian. Her most notable performances include the role of Caroline Bingley in *Pride and Prejudice* (1940), *The Letter* (1940), and *A Place in the Sun* (1951). Despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the 1950s, which confined her to a wheelchair, she continued to work with determination in film and television into the 1960s. Her prolific career, which included over fifty films, solidified her reputation as one of the most reliable and versatile character actresses of her era, though she never received any major awards.
