Gábor Balogh
Gábor Balogh, born in Budapest on August 5, 1976, is a former Hungarian pentathlete, considered one of the leading figures in his discipline at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. His competitive career culminated in winning the silver medal in modern pentathlon at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. At the world level, he was crowned individual champion on two occasions, in 1999 in Budapest and 2001 in Millfield, adding numerous world titles in team and relay competitions to his list of achievements. Thanks to his outstanding results, he was named Hungarian Sportsman of the Year for three consecutive years, from 1999 to 2001. After retiring from competitive sport, he pursued a career in sports administration and politics, holding important advisory roles for the Hungarian government, particularly as a sports advisor to the Prime Minister.
