Gastone Renzelli

Gastone Renzelli (Rome, October 8, 1921 – Rome, November 1, 1990) was an Italian actor and character actor. Active primarily during the 1970s and 1980s, he established himself as one of the most recognizable figures in Italian comedy cinema thanks to his screen presence and his ability to embody popular Roman characters, who were often gruff but authentic. His career is inextricably linked to his collaboration with Carlo Verdone, for whom he played memorable roles such as the hippy's father in *Un sacco bello* (1980) and, above all, the iconic truck driver 'er Principe' in *Bianco, rosso e Verdone* (1981). His other significant works include his role as Gasperino, the Pope's aide, in Mario Monicelli's *Il marchese del Grillo* (1981). He also worked with directors such as Sergio Corbucci and Steno. Although he did not win any major individual awards, Renzelli earned widespread and enduring recognition from audiences and critics, who consider him one of the most effective and beloved character actors of his generation, essential to the success of numerous films.
