Gene Tierney was an American actress, considered one of the greatest icons of classic Hollywood cinema, active primarily in the 1940s and 1950s. She achieved international fame with the title role in Otto Preminger's film noir *Laura* (1944), which established her as a star. For her intense portrayal of the femme fatale Ellen Berent Harland in the Technicolor film *Leave Her to Heaven* (1945), she received her only Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
