George Sewell
George Sewell (1924-2007) was a British actor, known for his "tough guy" roles and his deep, distinctive voice. He began his career relatively late, joining Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop. His film career includes roles in iconic films such as *Get Carter* (1971), in which he played the gangster Eric Paice. However, he is primarily remembered for his television roles, playing Colonel Alec Freeman in the cult science fiction series *UFO* (1970-1971) and Detective Chief Inspector Alan Craven in the police drama *Special Branch* (1973-1974). He appeared in numerous other productions, including the miniseries *Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy*. While Sewell did not win any major individual awards, his contribution as a prolific and reliable character actor made him an iconic and familiar figure in British film and television for over four decades.
