
Gerard Malanga
Gerard Malanga, an American poet, photographer, and filmmaker born in 1943, is a central figure of the American counterculture, known primarily for his close collaboration with Andy Warhol in the 1960s. He was Warhol's primary assistant at the Factory, where he was instrumental in the production of the silkscreens and starred in numerous experimental films, including *Vinyl* and *Chelsea Girls*. Concurrently, Malanga developed a prolific independent career as a poet, publishing dozens of collections that explore themes of identity and pop culture. His work as a photographer is equally significant, comprising a vast body of portraits of important figures from the worlds of art and literature, from William S. Burroughs to Iggy Pop.
