Glauco Mauri

Glauco Mauri, born in Pesaro in 1930, is a central figure in Italian theatre of the second half of the twentieth century and the new millennium, celebrated as both an actor and director. A graduate of the Silvio d'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Arts, he made his debut in the 1950s, also collaborating with the Piccolo Teatro of Milan under the direction of Giorgio Strehler. In 1981, he founded the Glauco Mauri Roberto Sturno Company, an enduring artistic partnership that has produced dozens of highly successful productions. His career is marked by memorable performances of the great classics, including Shakespeare's *King Lear* and *Richard II*, Goethe's *Faust*, Dostoevsky's *The Idiot*, and works by Beckett, Chekhov, and Pirandello. Often directing his own productions, he has combined philological rigor with a profound exploration of the human condition. Also active in cinema, television, and voice acting, he has received numerous awards, notably including several Ubu Awards, the Flaiano Prize, the Nastro d'Argento (Silver Ribbon), and the Gold Medal for Merit in Culture and Art, testifying to his fundamental contribution to the Italian stage.
