
Griff Barnett
Griffith Barnett, known as Griff Barnett, (Blue Mound, December 11, 1884 – Los Angeles, January 12, 1958) was an American actor. He began his career on stage and in vaudeville, before moving into radio and eventually film in the 1930s. As a prolific character actor, he specialized in supporting roles, predominantly portraying authority figures such as judges, doctors, bankers, and politicians. His extensive filmography includes appearances in numerous Hollywood classics, including *The Grapes of Wrath* (1940), *Mr. Smith Goes to Washington* (1939), and the 1937 version of *A Star Is Born*. He is particularly remembered for the role of bank examiner Mr. Carter in Frank Capra's *It's a Wonderful Life* (1946). Although he did not receive major awards, his face became familiar to audiences of the Golden Age, solidifying his reputation as a reliable and versatile supporting actor, active until the 1950s.
