Grigoris Evangelatos, born in Athens, is a Greek opera director and academic. The son of the renowned director Spyros Evangelatos, he trained in music and law in Greece before specializing in stage direction in Munich. His career has seen him direct productions for major Greek and international opera houses, with a repertoire ranging from classics by Verdi, Puccini, and Mozart to the rediscovery of works by Greek composers such as Spyridon Samaras. His productions are noted for their meticulous analysis of the score and dramaturgical coherence. From 2007 to 2009, he was the artistic director of the Greek National Opera. He combines his theatrical work with an academic career as a professor at the Department of Theatre Studies of the University of Athens. He has received several awards for his work, including the prestigious Grand Prize for Music from the Union of Greek Critics for Theatre and Music, a testament to his significant contribution to the contemporary opera scene.
