Günter Lamprecht (Berlin, January 21, 1930 – Bad Godesberg, October 4, 2022) was a German actor whose career spanned theater, film, and television. Trained on the stages of major German theaters, he achieved international fame in 1980 for his portrayal of the complex protagonist Franz Biberkopf in Rainer Werner Fassbinder's monumental television series *Berlin Alexanderplatz*. This performance established him as one of the most intense actors of his generation. His filmography also includes prominent roles in the internationally successful film *Das Boot* (1981) and in the popular crime series *Tatort*, where for years he played the role of commissioner Franz Markowitz. Specializing in robust and often tormented characters, over the course of his long career he received numerous awards, including the Deutscher Filmpreis and the prestigious Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, establishing himself as one of the most iconic and respected faces of post-war German cinema.
