His international fame is primarily linked to his role as Jack the Ripper in G.W. Pabst's masterpiece *Pandora's Box* (1929), alongside Louise Brooks. During the same period, he starred in other successful films such as *The White Hell of Piz Palü* (1929) and *Westfront 1918* (1930). With the advent of sound, Diessl maintained his leading status, distinguishing himself in productions such as *S.O.S. Iceberg* (1933) and continuing to work extensively in German-language cinema until his death.
