Gustav Diessl (1899-1948) was an Austrian actor who began his career on the theater stage before establishing himself as one of the leading stars of German silent cinema. His international fame is primarily linked to his role as Jack the Ripper in G.W. Pabst's masterpiece *Pandora's Box* (1929), alongside Louise Brooks. During the same period, he starred in other successful films such as *The White Hell of Piz Palü* (1929) and *Westfront 1918* (1930). With the advent of sound, Diessl maintained his leading status, distinguishing himself in productions such as *S.O.S. Iceberg* (1933) and continuing to work extensively in German-language cinema until his death. Known for his masculine appearance and his ability to portray tormented and complex characters, although he did not receive major formal awards, his importance is evidenced by his consistent collaboration with renowned directors and his lasting impact as an iconic figure of an entire cinematic era.
