Guylaine Schlumberger

Guylaine Schlumberger (1917-1981) was a French painter associated with the Surrealist movement. Trained at the prestigious Académie Julian in Paris, she came into contact with André Breton's circle, actively participating in the group's artistic life. Her work is characterized by a dreamlike and symbolic visual language, often inspired by mythology, alchemy, and an introspective exploration of the female subconscious. Her canvases, created with a meticulous painting technique, feature enigmatic figures and transfigured landscapes that evoke inner worlds. She participated in major international Surrealist exhibitions, and her work was included in the 1954 Venice Biennale, a prestigious recognition that consolidated her position on the European art scene. Her contribution is considered significant within the second generation of Surrealism for her ability to combine formal refinement with profound psychological investigation.
