
György Cserhalmi
György Cserhalmi, born in Budapest on February 17, 1948, is one of the most celebrated and influential Hungarian actors of his generation. After graduating from the Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest in 1971, he embarked on a prolific career in both theatre and film, distinguishing himself with his charismatic presence and the intensity of his performances. He is known for his collaborations with leading Hungarian directors, including Miklós Jancsó in *Electra, My Love* (1974), István Szabó in the Oscar-winning film *Mephisto* (1981), and Béla Tarr, for whom he starred in *Kárhozat* (Damnation, 1988). His versatility has made him an iconic figure of European art-house cinema. Throughout his career, he has received the highest national honors: he was awarded the Mari Jászai Prize in 1982, the prestigious Kossuth Prize in 1990, and, in 2014, the title of Actor of the Nation (A Nemzet Színésze).
