Harvey Braban

Harvey Braban was a British actor, born in Brighton in 1883 and died in London in 1943. Trained in the theatre, he became a prominent figure in British silent cinema of the 1920s. He is best remembered for portraying two iconic characters in two different film series produced by Stoll Pictures: he was Sherlock Holmes in the series *The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes* (1922) and his antagonist, the villainous Dr. Fu Manchu, in *The Mystery of Dr. Fu-Manchu* (1923). His ability to embody both the hero and the villain demonstrated his versatility. With the advent of sound film, his career continued with supporting roles in numerous productions. Notable among these is his appearance in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller *The Man Who Knew Too Much* (1934), in the role of a police inspector. Although he received no formal awards, his recognition lies in his portrayal of some of the most famous literary figures of his time, cementing his reputation in the cinematic landscape of the early twentieth century.
