Héctor Martínez
Héctor Martínez, born in 1934, is a Venezuelan poet, essayist, and literary critic, considered one of the most significant voices of his generation. His career is closely linked to the "Guaire" literary group and his directorship of the magazine "Poesía" at the University of Carabobo, which he led for several decades. His literary work explores themes of memory, time, loss, and the urban landscape, particularly that of Caracas, with precise and reflective language. Among his most important poetic works are "Memoria del Otro" and "Árbol de la noche," while in the field of non-fiction, "Caracas, la que se fue," a chronicle of his city's transformation, stands out. His fundamental contribution to national literature has been widely recognized, culminating in his receiving the prestigious National Prize for Literature of Venezuela in 2012, the country's highest literary honor.
