Henri Storck

**Henri Storck (1907-1999)** was not an actor, but an influential Belgian director and pioneer of documentary filmmaking. His film career began in the 1920s and saw him become one of the founders of social and poetic documentary filmmaking.

His early works, such as *Images d'Ostende* (1929-1930), show a visual sensitivity and experimental approach, capturing everyday life with a lyrical touch. His masterpiece, *Misère au Borinage* (1933), made with Joris Ivens, is a powerful indictment of the living conditions of miners and an emblematic example of militant cinema.

Storck developed a style characterized by keen observation of reality, combining social realism with a poetic touch. His films explore themes such as social injustice, everyday life, and art, as in the portrait *Le Monde de Paul Delvaux* (1947). He was a central figure in Belgian and international cinema, influencing generations of documentary filmmakers.
