Hisako Yamane

Hisako Yamane is a Japanese actress, known primarily for her work in 1970s cinema. Her career is inextricably linked to the *Roman Porno* genre of the Nikkatsu production company, for which she became one of the most representative stars. Among her most significant performances are *Ecstasy of the Angels* (1972) by Kōji Wakamatsu, and *A Woman Called Abe Sada* (1975) and *Watcher in the Attic* (1976), both directed by Noboru Tanaka. For her acclaimed performances in these last two films, Yamane received wide critical recognition. In 1975, she was conferred Japan's most prestigious film awards: the Blue Ribbon Award, the Kinema Junpo Award, and the Hochi Film Award for Best Actress, cementing her status as an icon of the period's auteur cinema. After a period of intense activity concentrated in the 1970s, her on-screen presence progressively diminished.
