Howard St. John (Chicago, August 9, 1896 – New York, January 22, 1974) was an American actor, known as a prolific stage, film, and television character actor. He began his career on the Broadway stage in the 1920s, building a solid reputation before moving into film. He specialized in portraying authoritarian figures, gruff businessmen, or pompous politicians, often with a comedic vein. One of his most successful roles was as General Bullmoose in the Broadway musical *Li'l Abner*, a role he reprised in the 1959 film adaptation. His other memorable performances include roles in *The Fuller Brush Girl* (1950), *The Tender Trap* (1955), and *One, Two, Three!* (1961). Also active in television, though he never received major awards, he was a familiar and respected face, recognized as a reliable and versatile character actor in the post-war American entertainment landscape.
